ORIGIN OF BLACK RICE It is also called Emperor's rice.It is often called forbidden rice because, in Ancient China, black rice was reserved for the aristocracy. Its low yield means that black rice is still rarer than other types of rice, and the fact that it’s been used for hundreds of years in traditional Chinese medicine makes this rice special, even if it’s no longer for royals only. UNDP PRAISE AND GOOD PROFIT According to the United Nations Development Programme latest appraisal report, Chandauli is one of the progressed districts in India. It started producing the ‘healthier’ black rice in 2018. This black rice is now being exported to Australia and New Zealand, with options of other countries also being explored. The project is being seen as a huge success due to high demand and good profit margin on black rice in global markets.
