India exported groundnut abroad worth Rs 5381 crore during 2020-21

Opening the door to the possibilities of increasing the export of groundnut from the eastern region, 24 Metric Tonnes (MT) of groundnut has been exported from West Bengal to Nepal. Groundnut was procured from the farmers of Midnapore district of West Bengal and registered with Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) by Laduram Promoters Pvt. Ltd. Kolkata exported. Traditionally, Gujarat and Rajasthan have a major share in the export of groundnut. Export of groundnut from West Bengal will increase the export potential of the crop in the eastern region of the country. It is noteworthy that during 2020-21, India has exported 6.38 lakh tonnes of groundnut worth Rs 5381 crore. Groundnut is mainly exported to countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Russia, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates and Nepal. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has shaped groundnut exports through initiatives like peanut.net. The process includes buyer registration, determination of batch of goods by APEDA registered groundnut units, application for certificate of export and certificate of loading of goods into containers by the exporter. According to the advance estimate of production of oilseeds by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, groundnut production in 2020-21 will be 101.19 lakh tonnes, as against 99.52 lakh tonnes in 2019-20. Gujarat is the largest producer of groundnut in the country. It is followed by Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and West Bengal.
